Which G37 is which
Coupes ran 2008-2013, sedans and convertibles 2009-2013. The 2008 coupe is the only G37 that EPA lists with a 5-speed automatic; the 7-speed arrived for 2009 along with the AWD G37x coupe. A 6-speed manual was offered on S Sport 6MT models throughout.
For 2014 the coupe and convertible were renamed Q60, and the sedan returned as the Q40 for 2015, so a 2014-2015 Q60 or a 2015 Q40 is mechanically the same family of car with the same 3.7L V6.[1][6][14][16][3]
G37 recalls to check before you buy
NHTSA's recall records list two G37 campaigns. Have the seller or an Infiniti dealer confirm both are closed for the VIN you are looking at.
- 08V521000 (Oct 2008): 2008 G37 Coupe (with 2007-2008 G35 Sedan and other Nissan models). The occupant classification sensor in the passenger seat could interrupt its signal to the airbag control unit and suppress the passenger airbag. Dealers test the system and replace the seat cushion if needed.
- 11V538000 (Nov 2011): certain 2011-2012 G37 Coupes built July 2 to Aug 29, 2011. The power window switch's auto-reverse threshold was set higher than specification, raising pinch risk. Dealers replace the switch.

What to check on a used G37
Confirm the exact model with the window sticker or VIN decode: G37x means AWD, and S Sport 6MT means the manual with sport brakes, sport suspension and a viscous limited-slip differential on sedans. Check that the recall work above is on record, and get a pre-purchase inspection, since even the youngest G37 is now more than a decade old.[7]
Infiniti G37 generations by year
| Generation | US model years | Engines | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| G37 Coupe | 2008–2013 | 3.7L V6, 330 hp / 270 lb-ft | Introduced for 2008 as the successor to the G35 Coupe. The 2009 model added the G37x AWD and a 7-speed automatic. The 2012 lineup added the IPL G Coupe. Renamed Q60 Coupe for 2014.[1][2][13][14] |
| G37 Sedan | 2009–2013 (sold alongside the Q50 into 2014) | 3.7L V6, 328 hp / 269 lb-ft | The G35 sedan became the G37 for 2009 with a larger engine and 7-speed automatic. Infiniti kept a streamlined G37 sedan on sale alongside the new Q50 and renamed it Q40 for 2015 (328 hp, 7-speed automatic).[5][7][15][16] |
| G37 Convertible | 2009–2013 | 3.7L V6, 325 hp | The first open-air G, with a three-piece retractable hardtop, on sale from June 2009 at $43,850. Renamed Q60 Convertible for 2014.[6][10][14] |
Infiniti G37 problems and recalls
The G37 has two recalls in the NHTSA dataset that name it. Recall 08V521 tests and, if needed, replaces the passenger seat occupant sensor on 2008 G37 Coupes because it could switch the passenger air bag off. Recall 11V538 replaces power window switches on some 2011–2012 G37 Coupes whose auto-reverse needs too much force to trigger.
| Issue | Generation | Years | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power window auto-reverse may not stop a closing window (recall 11V538)[22] | G37 | 2011–2012 (Coupe) | Recall 11V538 |
| Passenger air bag may be switched off by a faulty occupant sensor (recall 08V521)[23] | G37 | 2008 (Coupe) | Recall 08V521 |
