The 5.2L supercharged V8
Ford says the Raptor R's engine is derived from the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 first used in the Mustang Shelby GT500. For the truck, Ford Performance recalibrated the supercharger and fitted a new pulley to build more low- and mid-range torque, switched to cast stainless steel exhaust manifolds, and added a unique oil cooler, a deeper oil pan and a 66% larger air intake volume.
Ford's 2024 specifications list the engine at 5.2 liters (315 cubic inches) with a 9.5:1 compression ratio, forged aluminum pistons and 11.5 quarts of oil, built in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford also fitted a stronger front axle, a larger-diameter aluminum driveshaft and a heavy-duty torque converter to handle the output.[6][7]
How to spot a Raptor R
Ford's order guides code the Raptor R as equipment group 803A with the 5.2L supercharged V8 under engine code 99J; the standard Raptor uses the 3.5L high-output EcoBoost (99G). On the truck itself, the R package includes a unique hood vent with an R badge, an R badge on the tailgate appliqué, R exterior graphics (deletable), a unique grille, 17-inch forged beadlock-capable wheels, Code Orange front tow hooks and Code Orange interior stitching.
Ford also describes the Raptor R's hood power dome as nearly an inch taller than the standard Raptor's.
