On the Yukon, both trims get Magnetic Ride Control; the AT4 adds a high-approach front fascia with a skid plate, red recovery hooks and all-terrain tires, while the Denali adds the 6.2L V8, Super Cruise and a 15-inch head-up display as standard — which is why the Denali premium is larger there. The AT4 Ultimate combines both worlds: 6.2L V8, Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and a full-grain leather interior. On the Canyon, the AT4X adds a 3-inch lift and Multimatic DSSV dampers.

Which should you buy?

  • AT4 — if you leave pavement, tow on gravel or want the lifted look, at roughly the same price as a Denali on the Sierra.
  • Denali — if the truck or SUV is a daily driver and ride comfort, interior and tech matter most.
  • Chevy equivalents — Trail Boss/ZR2 (off-road) and High Country (luxury); see Silverado vs Sierra and what GMC stands for.

Shopping a used Denali or AT4? Check the build

GMC trims overlap with packages, so the badge does not tell you everything. Check the exact factory options of the truck or SUV before you buy — engine, suspension and option packages. Enter the VIN on the GMC build sheet page: the availability check is free, and you pay $9.99 only if build data exists. You get the factory-ordered option (RPO) codes on record.

FAQ

What is the difference between GMC Denali and AT4?

Denali is GMC’s luxury line — chrome Denali grille, premium leather and wood interiors and comfort-tuned suspension. AT4 is GMC’s off-road line — a factory lift, all-terrain tires, skid plates and locking differentials. On the 2027 Sierra 1500 they cost almost the same: the AT4 starts at $70,700 and the Denali at $70,900.

Is the AT4 or Denali more expensive?

It depends on the model. GMC lists the 2027 Sierra 1500 AT4 at $70,700 and Denali at $70,900; the 2027 Yukon AT4 at $77,900 and Denali at $83,100; and the 2027 Canyon AT4 at $46,700 and Denali at $54,300. The AT4X and Ultimate versions sit above both.

What is AT4X?

GMC’s most off-road-focused trim. On the 2027 Sierra 1500 AT4X, GMC lists the 3.0L Duramax diesel, a 2-inch lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, Baja Drive Mode and underbody cameras, from $82,700.

What does Denali Ultimate add?

More luxury on top of Denali. On the 2027 Sierra 1500, GMC lists the 6.6L V8 as standard on Denali Ultimate, along with 14-way massaging front seats, a 16-speaker Bose Premium Series system and open-pore forged birch wood trim, from $85,100.

Which is better for towing, Denali or AT4?

Neither trim sets the towing rating on its own — the engine, axle ratio, cab and bed, and trailering package do. On the 2027 Sierra 1500, both the AT4 and Denali come standard with the 5.7L V8, the engine GMC rates for its 13,500-lb maximum when properly equipped. Check the trailering label on the specific vehicle.
