Key differences

Engine is the main split. The RHO uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six rated at 540 hp and 521 lb-ft. The TRX uses a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8: 702 hp and 650 lb-ft in 2021–2024 trucks, and 777 hp and 680 lb-ft in the 2027 TRX SRT.

Ram's acceleration claims follow the power figures: 4.6 seconds to 60 mph for the RHO, 4.5 seconds for the first TRX and 3.5 seconds for the 2027 TRX SRT. Ram quotes a 118 mph top speed for all three.

The hardware is closer than the engines. All three ride on 35-inch tires with 11.8 inches of ground clearance and adaptive Bilstein shocks, and the RHO and 2027 TRX SRT both list up to 14 inches of rear axle travel. On Ram's published ratings the RHO tows more (8,380 lb vs 8,100 lb) and carries more (1,520 lb vs 1,310 lb) than the 2021 TRX.

Fuel use differs clearly. The EPA rates the RHO at 15 mpg combined and the 2021–2024 TRX at 12 mpg combined, both on premium fuel.[2][3][4][6][9][10]

Which to buy

If price and running costs matter most, the RHO's figures favor it: it launched at $69,995 against $99,995 for the 2027 TRX SRT, and its EPA combined rating is 3 mpg better than the first TRX's. It also has higher published towing and payload ratings than the 2021 TRX.

If the goal is the most power and the quickest Ram claims, the 2027 TRX SRT leads at 777 hp and 3.5 seconds to 60 mph. A used 2021–2024 TRX sits between them on power and offers V8 performance, so check its recall status, condition and how it was used off-road.[2][3][4][6][9][10]

Ram RHO vs TRX known issues & recalls

NHTSA's recall data lists recalls by model, not trim, so these are Ram 1500 campaigns whose model years overlap each truck: 2021–2024 for the first TRX and 2025–2026 for the RHO. Themes include stability control and instrument panel software, rearview camera faults, a trailer tow module and seat belt anchors. Check a specific truck's VIN with Ram or NHTSA to see which campaigns apply.
