| Generation | Years | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Countach LP400 | 1974–1978 | First production version, 4.0-liter 375 CV V12, recognizable by the roof “periscope.” The LP500 prototype debuted at Geneva in 1971.[1][2] |
| Countach LP400 S | 1978–1982 | Wider wheel arches for new low-profile Pirelli tires; the rear wing was offered as an add-on.[2][1] |
| Countach 5000 S | 1982–1985 | Displacement rose to 4.8 liters with electronic ignition management and more torque.[2][1] |
| Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole and 25th Anniversary | 1985–1990 | 5.2-liter four-valve V12 at 455 CV (420 CV injected). The 25th Anniversary of 1988 marked the company’s 25 years and used carbon fiber.[2][1] |

Design and engineering
Carrozzeria Bertone drew the Countach’s wedge shape, and its scissor doors were a first for a production car in 1974. The V12 sat longitudinally behind the cabin with the gearbox ahead of it, almost between the seats.
The engine traced back to Giotto Bizzarrini’s 1963 V12, adapted for road use by Paolo Stanzani. Tires grew from 205/70 VR 14 fronts on the LP400 to 345/35 VR 15 rears on the Anniversario.[1]
Countach LPI 800-4 (2022)
The LPI 800-4 uses the hybrid system from the Sián: a supercapacitor and 34 CV electric motor that together weigh 34 kg (75 lb). Lamborghini quotes a 355 km/h maximum speed and 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, with all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering and magnetorheological dampers.
EPA rates the 2022 model, listed as the Aventador Countach, at 11 mpg combined.[3][5]
What to check before buying a used Countach
For an original 1974–1990 Countach, factory documentation matters most: Lamborghini Polo Storico can certify originality against the production archive. For the 2022 Countach LPI 800-4, confirm that the single NHTSA recall campaign covering its rear glass panels has been completed by a Lamborghini dealer before purchase.
Ask for Polo Storico certification
Lamborghini’s Polo Storico checks the originality of each component against the factory production files and issues a Certification of Authenticity.[6]
Confirm the version against the factory specification
Displacement and output changed by version (4.0, 4.8 and 5.2 liters), so the engine fitted should match the version claimed.[1][2]
Original parts availability
Lamborghini produces original spare parts for classic models, ordered through authorized dealers.[6]
