Lamborghini Murciélago generations and years
| Generation | Years | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Murciélago (6.2-liter) | 2002–2006 | Original 580 CV car; the Roadster followed, as the model was planned from the start as coupe and open versions.[1] |
| Murciélago LP 640 and LP 670-4 SuperVeloce | 2007–2010 | 6.5-liter V12 (EPA lists it from model year 2007) with 640 CV; the SuperVeloce added 30 CV and cut 100 kg.[2][4][3] |
Design and engineering
The Murciélago was the first Lamborghini designed on computer and the first conceived entirely by the in-house Centro Stile, led by Luc Donckerwolke. Its gearbox sits ahead of the engine, nearly inside the cabin, for a shorter wheelbase and better balance, and its engine air intakes open and close automatically.
For the LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, Lamborghini quotes 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and a 342 km/h top speed.[1][4]
What to check before buying a used Murciélago
Before buying a used Murciélago, confirm that the two NHTSA recall campaigns naming it were completed: a fuel tank replacement on 2007–2008 coupes and roadsters, and replacement of carbon-ceramic brake rotor screws on 2006–2010 cars. Both were free dealer repairs, so ask for the service records that show the work.
2007–2008 cars: fuel tank replacement (10V215000)
Welds holding the fuel pump support inside the tank could detach and cause a leak; dealers replaced the fuel tank.[7]
2006–2010 cars with carbon-ceramic brakes: rotor screws (13V470000)
Stainless-steel rotor screws could fail after exposure to salt; dealers replaced them.[7]
Confirm engine and version
Early cars use the 6.2-liter V12; LP 640 and SuperVeloce cars use 6.5 liters, so the engine should match the badge.[1][4]
