912 912 specs (1965–1969)
What changed in the 912
Introduced in April 1965 as the 356 bowed out, the 912 paired the new 911 body with a slightly detuned 1.6-liter pushrod flat-four from the 356 SC, keeping the entry price well below the six-cylinder car. A soft-window Targa joined in late 1966 and a fixed-glass rear window followed in 1968. Over 32,000 were built, mostly coupes, before the 914 took over the entry slot.
