Chassis code: G70 sedan
What changed in the G70
The seventh-generation 7 Series launched for 2023 with a single long body of about 212 inches, sharing its platform with the electric i7. At launch the US combustion models were the 740i, whose turbo six has 48-volt mild-hybrid assist, and the V8 760i xDrive, which uses the same assist. For 2024 BMW added an all-wheel-drive 740i xDrive and a 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid rated at 483 hp combined. Air suspension and rear-wheel steering are standard, and the optional 31.3-inch rear theater screen became a signature feature. A refresh for the 2027 model year has been reported but is not reflected here.

G11/G12 7 Series (2016–2022) specs
Chassis code: G12 sedan · LCI (facelift) from the 2020 model year
What changed in the G11
The sixth-generation 7 Series arrived for 2016 with a carbon-reinforced body structure and the new B58 turbo six in the 740i, alongside a twin-turbo V8 in the 750i. BMW sold only the long-wheelbase body (internally G12) in the US but kept the short badges, so a US 740i is the long car Europe calls the 740Li. The V12 M760i xDrive and the four-cylinder 740e xDrive plug-in hybrid joined for 2017. The 2020 facelift brought a much larger kidney grille, 335 hp for the 740i, a 523 hp V8 in a now AWD-only 750i xDrive, and a six-cylinder 745e that replaced the 740e. The 2022 model year was the last for this generation in the US.
