Toyota tools & data
By CarWhere Research · Updated
CarWhere’s Toyota hub collects free research for Toyota shoppers and owners: 9 engine guides from the 2.5L Dynamic Force four to the V35A twin-turbo V6 and i-FORCE MAX hybrid, 206 trim levels with dated base MSRPs, 116 known issues and recalls with NHTSA complaint counts by year, Toyota history and VIN tools. Every page lists its sources.
Two Toyotas with the same badge can differ in engine, hybrid system, drivetrain and packages, and in the Southeast and Gulf states the same truck can arrive with distributor-installed accessories. These pages explain what each engine, trim and generation offered, what tends to go wrong, and what to check on a specific vehicle before you buy it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find out what options my Toyota has?
Start with the paperwork that came with the vehicle. If it is lost, a build sheet reconstructed from the VIN shows factory colors, options and packages where detailed build data exists, and the free VIN decoder shows basics such as engine, body and plant. Port- and dealer-installed accessories are usually not part of factory build data.
Why do some Toyota window stickers show extra accessories and a second price?
In the Southeast and Gulf states, Toyotas are supplied through independent distributors that can add port- or distributor-installed accessories before the vehicle reaches the dealer. Dealers can also add their own items on a separate addendum. CarWhere’s distributor and port-accessory guide explains how to tell them apart.
What is i-FORCE MAX?
i-FORCE MAX is Toyota’s name for its hybrid truck and SUV powertrains, which pair a turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor in the transmission. The engine guide lists which models and years use it and Toyota’s published output.
Which Toyota engine was recalled for machining debris?
The 3.4L i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 (V35A-FTS). NHTSA recall 24V381 covers 2022–2023 Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX 600: machining debris may not have been fully cleared from the engine during manufacturing. The engine guide and the Tundra known-issues page list the affected years and the remedy.
How do I check a Toyota for recalls?
Enter the 17-character VIN on NHTSA’s recall lookup or Toyota’s owner site, or ask a Toyota dealer to run it. Recall repairs are free. CarWhere’s known-issues pages list major recall campaign numbers by model and generation.
